Sometimes the day comes when you want a change of scene and you feel and change of sponsor is just what you need. Here are a few things to think about:
1. Think why you want to leave your current sponsor. Are you not getting what you want from them, have you had an altercation with another member of the team or the team manager? Have you outgrown the brand? Is your contract coming to an end? Has the brand ghosted you? Be ready to answer questions as to why you are looking to leave.
2. Be ready to accept that after disclosing this information, the answer from a new brand might be a no. Which means you are still with the brand you wanted to leave.
3. Don't burn bridges. Extreme sports are fairly close-knit industries so word gets around. Make sure you don't burn your bridges with anyone or you might be left without a sponsor, even if you're a top level athlete.
4. Know why you want to ride for the brand you're approaching. Simply looking for a change is not going to be enough. You need to be ready to sell yourself. Why should a new brand want to take you on?
5. If you get welcomed onto a new team, make sure you've SPOKEN to your team manager to let them know that you'll be leaving that brand or not renewing your contract.
